Samhuin

The Celtic year comes to an end this evening. The green world is dead or dying even as the seed of the new green world drops to the ground. We are between time. The past is put away and the future has not yet come into being. The veil between death and life thins allowing passage between the two realms. So we celebrate the death which brings forth the life. We extinguish the hearth fire, feast and share our bounty with the living and the dead. We seal old business and plan for the future. Then relight the hearth fire and await the rebirth of the sun in the depth of dark December.

This year I am personally experiencing the in between. My old job and way of life have closed and my future job and life are in the future. Our country is between time too, waiting for the election which may change the nation into something our ancestors wouldn't recognize. So I will celebrate the death of the old as I await the birth of the new.
