Samhuin

Samhuin is upon us....time stands still and the gates to the Otherworld stand agape. The sun slips into it's long sleep and the world follows. Trees drop their leaves, the herds and flocks are brought in from distant pastures and the last of nature's bounty is harvested. Tis a time for culling that which should be kept and that which won't survive the long night. Cull, slaughter and feast before sleep. Set a place for those who have gone to the Otherworld for tonight they are just Close By. Ask for their help and prophecy.

Every three years a great Feis was held at Tara on Samhuin. Great feasts and games were held for three nights before and three nights after the timeless Samhuin. Those who would be Ard Ri, high King of the Land, would stand upon the Lia Fail stone and anticipate the Roar of the stone that would proclaim them an unblemished descendent of Niall of the Nine Hostages, thus worthy of rule. A vote by the clans and ritual mating with the Land would sanctify their kingship for the following three years. Obediance was sworn, the Laws were read, disputes settled and taxes levied. The Druids invoked Peace from the quarters and the Feis ended. All was Good in the Land.

Tonight, light a fire at sunset in a quiet grove, feast, set a place for those who have gone on, ask for their help and contemplate past and future. Settle disputes and invoke peace in your life. Tis Yearend and tonight there is no time....
