Black Watch

David Cameron wants to send the former 42nd Highland Black Watch to Libya to help evacuate refugees. At one time in history this news might have terrified the natives and made them piss themselves and run into the desert. Now, not so much. Perhaps those refugees are eight British SAS captured by Libyan rebels. The new 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the BlackWatch, is not the force it once was.

Former SAS commander Clive Fairweather told the Sunday Herald yesterday that long-term cuts in defence spending mean the UK is now powerless to intervene militarily in the region. “We’d be lucky if we could occupy a football stadium in Libya. There is nothing we could do. The only people in town who could do something about Libya are the Americans,” he said.

The UK is finished as a military power and therefore, as a major global player. The soldiers may still be the same but the people of the UK have changed. The British don't have the resources to deal with any aspect of the now, Libyan Civil War. And the US doesn't have the interest. Obama and the US are golfing as Libya destroys itself and gives the global elites an opportunity to raise oil prices to consolidate global power.
