Modern civilization sucks

After losing my job in automotive semiconductors three years ago I thought I'd found work that would take me to retirement in energy storage cleantech. The company had good science, government funding and deep connections in automotive, heavy transport, military and grid energy storage. But European partners fell on their faces and destroyed our automotive based business model. So we're restructuring. Right now funding is Ok and leadership has a new business model and customers to lead us into the future. But it's scary.

The chaos and carnage in the modern workplace is more than anyone should have to bear. But especially us old guys. We should be able to give our best years of work in peace without worrying if we're going to have a job tomorrow. My grandfathers and father didn't have to live in terror of losing their job every day.

The world has just gotten too big and disconnected for our good. Counting on someone in another county, let alone another country, to give a flying crap about you or your job is fantasy. It's all about greed now. No one gives a shit about anyone else. Not even the pricks who live next door.

Many Penn State fans are instructive. They don't care if their neighbor's sons get fucked in the ass so long as Penn State wins football games. Sound like the Taliban in Waziristan? And these are your fine neighbors living amongst you. Modern civilization sucks.
