They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security

Are most americans so risk averse that they prefer a soft government cage to freedom? Davide Murrin thinks so and so do I. Far too many people want someone else to tell them what to think, what to eat, how to behave and every little detail of life. They get themselves into the cushy job, play it safe, kiss the proper butt and expect to ride it out for 30 years then retire in a gated community. These zombies live a scripted life that blows up in their faces if anything goes wrong. They panic and run to mommy and daddy or the government to make life "fair" again.

The US is on the same trajectory as Europe and can expect the same fate. Life will not stand still As soon as you try to fence time and circumstances, then sit down and rest, life will surge ahead and leave you in the dust. Only those who keep trudging forward and take reasonable risk will thrive.

America peaked about 40 years ago and since then has been living on the residual wealth created after WW2. We're afraid to drill for oil, afraid to build nuclear reactors, afraid we'll offend some third world dictator, afraid we'll make an animal extinct, afraid we'll hurt the global climate, afraid we'll get sick, etc..Basically, we're afraid of any risk. And that's why we have the soft tyranical government that we deserve.

The American Century is now in the past, we'll stumble along on momentum for awhile until our trappings of power crumble. The dollar, the symbol of american economic power is declining as our industrial base collapses. The government has nationalized most of our auto industry, our banking industry, our health care system and soon, the energy industry. What's left?

Our military will be gutted as tax receipts decline leaving a vacumn that will be filled by nations and peoples willing to take risks. Even Mexican drug cartels are no longer afraid to murder american diplomats next door. How long until Chinese, Russians, Iranians and every other thug in the world decides that there is zero risk in ignoring or attacking america?

Benjamin Franklin said "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"
