Who's the Idiot Who Got 7% of DevGru Killed?
What fucking imbecile decided to put 17 of the nation's most highly trained soldiers on the same goddamned helicopter? And don't suggest it was some Colonel or theater General. These SEALS get tasked by JSOC or the DOD. Whoever ran this clusterfuck needs to be removed from command for destroying over $22M of irreplaceable national defense talent.
This was a loss of one entire troop of three that make up Gold Squadron. Only 250 of these highly trained warriors exist in DevGru. Asked what the naval special warfare community’s initial reaction to the incident was, the NSW source answered: “Shock and disbelief. There’s no precedent for this. It’s the worst day in our history by a mile.” A military blog commenter said "This is the equivalent of the Pacific fleet losing a carrier". This is a loss of 7% of the DevGru!
I didn't go to Annapolis, but I wouldn't put 7% of my total resources in a single helicopter just 11 days after the Taliban shot down another CH-47. I'd consider it too risky.
And what was the mission? Was it worth the loss? Sayadabad has been a Taliban stronghold since the war began ten years ago. The Taliban there have long been known as locals. Why not drop a goddamned thermobaric weapon on the suspected target and kill every living thing there?
