Welcome to the new Feudal World
The local newspaper headline reads "17,000 county residents have low food security". In other words, 21% of the county population doesn't make enough money to routinely eat. They also say that these folks fall through the cracks of welfare systems because they make more than poverty guidelines. So in reality, the poverty rate in the county is 40%!
Spengler has written that the real cause for the revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is not freedom but food security. As food prices have doubled in the past year, many people in MENA cannot afford to routinely eat any longer. East Asian wealth has bid up food costs beyond the ability of MENA economies to participate.
So the problem is not insufficient food production for 6.9 billion people on the planet, but insufficient work opportunities to earn income to buy food. And stunningly that problem exists in MENA and the US!
Now Spengler and US experts all say that education is the key to turning this lack of opportunity to create wealth around. Maybe it is for some individuals but I don't think education solves enough of this problem for enough people to make a difference. Why? Because once these educated people start creating wealth, they will hoard the wealth to themselves just as they do in Libya and the US today.
Surplus labor is the problem in MENA and the US. Surplus' always drive prices down and they have the same effect on income potential. The Plague is what broke the feudal system and opened an opportunity for a European middle class. The need for labor created the middle class in the industrialized West. Without a need for labor, opportunity and income plummets and people starve.
Communists think we can share the wealth. But that is contrary to human nature as proven in every failed communist state. The wealth just changes hands as the leaders hoard wealth and kill off excess labor. Capitalists think we can maintain those without opportunity at subsistence levels while they hoard wealth. That philosophy is being tested and failing miserably now.
The world is gravitating back towards the feudal model even as revolutions break out in feudal societies. The elites will hoard wealth as they drive more and more peoples into serfdom. People will rebel and die. But the elites will maintain power and wealth.
We would be better off in the US, and the world, if our elites just murdered the poor, elderly and unemployed instead of just laying them off or refusing to hire them. Just slit the throats of people who apply for welfare or unemployment. Expose the babies of mother's who can't pay for birthing. Smother retirees once they no longer create wealth. It would be far less cruel and eliminate suffering.
The New Normal created by the global elites only needs a global population of 4.1 billion. In the US, only 187 million people are needed. The elites should just murder the rest, end their suffering quickly and move on with their lives of wealth and power creation. Do it formally rather than the Obama fake responsibility to protect (R2P) that we see in Libya today or Obamacare in the US tomorrow.
